22 Health & Wellness Tips To Reinvent Yourself in 2022!

Resolutions often bring a sense of purpose through a pledge or intention to yourself to do something different in the new year. To help get you started, we have listed our top 22 resolutions we are excited about. Enjoy!

1. Set New Expectations & Goals For Yourself: These goals can be things you didn't achieve this year or they can be new priorities or hobbies you wish to pick up in the new year. What is going to make you happy and what are the steps you need to take to achieve these goals?

2. Exercise At Least 30 Minutes Each Day: Spend at least 30 minutes exercising every day. That means get outside, walk around a mall, or purchase a gym membership to get your body moving. Exercise gives you endorphins, and we all know endorphins make you happy!

3. Eat Healthier & Meal Prep More Often: The holidays bring a lot of delicious food items and tasty drinks, so, in the new year, try being more mindful of your eating. Meal prepping is a great way to portion control the food you’re intaking. Successful meal preppers seem to find Sundays as the best day for weekly meal prep.

4. Start A New Hobby: Learning a new hobby can be very exciting, but also a little daunting. Whether it's cooking or baking healthier, meditating, practicing yoga, there are so many you can start in the new year!

5. Schedule Your Annual Physical: It’s common for adults to skip this important part of their healthcare, especially when they are feeling well. Seeing your primary Family Medicine or Internal Medicine provider is crucial to your overall health. It is important to receive preventive care and monitor such things as your blood pressure, weight gain/loss, cholesterol, and general well-being.

6. Practice Self-Care: Care for your mind, body, and soul through more healthy nutrition, taking up a new sport, going to a new workout class, seeking professional help for mental health, massages, and more.

7. Start an HSA fund: If you're generally a healthy person and you'd like to save for future unknown health expenses, an HSA might be an attractive choice for you. You can often invest directly into an account per paycheck. If you're interested in learning more, connect with your employer to see if they offer this benefit.

8. Make Mental Health A Priority: Mental health is just as important as physical health. Don't know where to start? Try a free subscription trial with a couple of mental health & wellness apps such as Headspace, Calm Therapy & more. See the full list here.

9. Get More R&R: Your body should be getting roughly 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night. There are a few ways to ensure you’re sleeping just right—dim display lights, darken curtains, turn down the thermostat, and replace your mattress every ten years.

10. Socialize More With Your Family & Friends: It is important to set aside some of your personal time each week or month to connect with your friends and family. You can even combine some of your goals and go to an exercise class with them, grab a cup of coffee, or have a cocktail party at your house.

11. Try A 14-Day or 30-Day Workout Challenge: Along with exercising daily, think about testing out a 30-day challenge. There are many different types of trials for you to partake in, whether it’s exercising or healthy eating. BetterMe is a great resource to start trying out a new challenge or two!

12. Stay Proactive With Your Health: No one knows your body better than yourself; so take the necessary steps every month to stay on track with your health and document any changes you notice. Make an appointment with your doctor if needed.

13. Stay Humble & Grateful For Each Day: It’s very important to have a happy and healthy mindset during the new year. Note what you found grateful and the positives of the day.

14. Stay Hydrated: Hydration is key to staying healthy and keeping your body functioning normally. According to Healthline, it is recommended that you drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Just remember the 8x8 rule.

15. Spend More of Your Personal Time Doing Activities You Love & Actually Enjoy: With everyone's lives completely flipped upside down the past couple of years, some of us lost sight of what hobbies truly make us happy. Now that we are starting to shift into a little more normalcy, start prioritizing your self-interests and what makes you happy to wake up each day and live.

16. De-stress & Prioritize Your Tasks: Stress comes in all shapes and sizes - whether that’s enjoying a cup of tea on a Sunday morning with friends, joining a yoga group, reading a new book, or taking a bath after the end of a long day, in 2022, resolve to find a way to de-stress.

17. Know Your Family Health History: It’s essential to create a medical family health tree that maps and records any illnesses, conditions, surgeries, and more within your family tree. Compiling important information about health can help you understand the risks of disease. Check out these steps to building your medical history.

18. Consume Appropriate Vitamins: If there is anything we have learned these past two years over the course of the pandemic, we've learned that sometimes we must nourish our bodies with the right nutrition, supplements, and vitamins. Don't forget to take the vitamins your doctor recommends.

19. Spend More Time Outdoors: Whether you work remotely, in an office, in a restaurant, school, or hospital, be sure to take time to get outside and get some good old-fashioned vitamin D. Vitamin D is helpful in maintaining your immune system function.

20. Join A New Gym or Workout Classes:  Try a new workout class. Check out ClassPass; as a member of this fitness app, you are able to join any type of workout class/studio that is already a member. Just enter your city, your class of choice, and join.

21. Try Cooking A New, Healthy Meal Each Week: Everyone has their go-to meals they cook each week. The next time you stay in, consider grabbing a new healthy recipe from Pinterest or a food blog.

22. Spend More Time With Animals: Pets can improve your overall mental health and wellness by boosting your mood, providing companionship, reducing stress, and giving you an outlet to get outside for a walk. Grab some extra cuddles from your furry friend in the new year!
